DFT14 Day 7 & 8 - A little change up

Initially we were suppose to be in the Providence, RI/Cape Cod area yesterday and Acadia today and tomorrow.  Coming back down to Portland on Friday.  Then we thought we would drive on passed Cape Cod, so we would be closer to Acadia today....UNTIL we looked at the weather.  According to the weather it was suppose to start raining today and not stop until Friday morning.  So we changed things up a bit.  We stayed in Cape Cod yesterday, drove up to Portland today, and are going on to Acadia tomorrow.  Hopefully we will have at least one clear day, on Friday, when we are in Acadia.  Today was our first rainy day.  It actually didn't start raining until about 5:30, so we were able to have a pretty nice day.  Since it was already raining when we got to the KOA to check in, we decided to up grade to a cabin for the night.  After we had already decided to get a cabin, the KOA guy told us that it was suppose to rain about 3 inches tonight....good idea to get a cabin.

Yesterday we spent most of the whole day in the Cape Cod area.  It was really nice.  The National Seashore is really nice, and has lots of things to do.  There are walking/biking trails, beaches, lighthouse, and much more.  We drove all the way to the tip of the cape, which is called Provincetown.  Along the way we were able to see a few lighthouses, and the best part for me is that I was able to sit on the beach for about an hour.  The beach is really different.  The sand is a lot different compared to what we are use to along the beaches of South Carolina or Florida.  I can't really describe the difference other than it is REALLY hard to walk in.  You don't walk, you trudge.  Or maybe Daniel and I were just doing something wrong, because some teenagers were making fun of us.  The water looks cold and is def. COLD.  The beach is really rocky....no shells, just rocks.  And it is very breezy.  It is one of those places were you could sit out there all day and never feel like you were getting too much sun, but when you go inside you would be burnt to a crisp.  Before heading to camp for the night we stopped for dinner in Provincetown.  It is an INTERESTING town...and I'll leave it at that.

When I check out of the KOA - Mystic, CT yesterday morning, this nice older gentleman, named Mo, helped me check out.  Today when I checked out of the KOA - Boston/Cape Cod, this nice older gentleman, named Mo, check me out.  He looked like the same man, but I just couldn't believe it was the same man.  Until he started telling me the same things he told me yesterday.  I finally asked and he apparently works at both.  The are only 1.5 hours apart, so I guess they are ran by the same people.

Today we started by driving to Kennebunkport.  It is a really nice, quaint town.  There is a restaurant called The Clam Shack, that supposedly has the best lobster roll in America.  I had a lobster roll and Daniel had fried clam strips.  I must admit, it was pretty darn good.  It was my first lobster roll, and maybe my last.  I don't think any other lobster rolls could compare.  When you get your order, they give you a coupon to Aunt Marie's Ice Cream.  So of course, we had to use our coupon.  I had Maine Blueberry Ice Cream and Daniel had Muddy Bean Boots, which was vanilla with a carmel swirl and brownie pieces.  After leaving Kennebunkport we drove up past Portland to Freeport, ME.  It is the LL Bean headquarters, and it also has quite a few upscale outlet stores.  We went to Freeport because they have a Patagonia outlet.  I was pretty disappointed I did not find anything in the Patagonia outlet, but Daniel did manage to get some really good deals.  I did get a really good deal on a quarter zip pullover front he Vineyard Vines outlet! And we got to shop around the LL Bean flagship store, which was HUGE.  After Freeport, we went back to Portland.  By the time we made it back to Portland is was raining.  We ended up eating dinner at a place called the Flatbread Company.  They use only organic, natural ingredients.  Everything is either made there or purchased locally.  We had a homemade sausage flatbread with caramelized onions and it was probably the best pizza/flatbread ever.  It was raining really hard when we finished eating, so to waste more time we had dessert.  We ordered the brownie sundae, which was a gluten free brownie with vanilla ice cream and maple infused homemade whipped cream!!!!! I think Knoxville or Asheville needs one of this places.

I have only been in Maine for a day, but I LOVE IT!  Everyone here is really nice! The houses are super cute! The restaurants are really good! Other than Fripp Island, I think I found my new favorite place!

Still getting over 10,000 every day!

  1. Maine is one of my favorite places up here. Even if people come to MA to visit us, we usually wind up taking the ride up to LLBean and Portland!
