DFT14 - Day 4 - Tourist Hell

Sorry....but that is exactly what yesterday was.  For all of you that live and work in NYC kuddos to you because I couldn't handle all the crazies on a daily basis.  I wonder if it being a Saturday made it worse?

We started the day out in the Midtown area.  We went to see the Flatiron Building and the Birthplace of Teddy Roosevelt. At the birthplace they only give tours every couple hours and we did not have time to take a tour.  So we were just able to view the exhibits downstairs.  After that we jumped back on the subway to head toward Lower Manhattan.  We walked up to Brooklyn Bridge, but did not start across it.  We tried to visit Federal Hall, where Washington was sworn in, but it was closed.  Seriously, this is NYC...people are here all the time...why is this building closed on a Saturday?  We walked through the Financial District and saw the charging bull from a distance..there were only 10,000 people surrounding it.  Then we made our way to Battery Park.

In Battery Park, I met the most unfriendly National Park Ranger of all time.  I know he must be asked millions of questions a day, but seriously thats his job.  We were not able to get tickets to go up in the Statue of Liberty crown, but we did have tickets to go on to the pedestal. Note: DO NOT ever try to go to the Statue of Liberty without pre purchasing tickets and printing them at home.  If you try to buy them there or pick them up there, you will wait in line for hours.  Also, don't listen to the hateful park ranger about where to go.  He will tell you to get in the line you do not need to be in.  Lastly, even though you ticket says your tour is at 2pm, it doesn't matter.  They will let you in at anytime and herd you through like cattle.

After our trip to the Statue of Liberty we made our way pack up towards Times Square.  From there we walked over to 5th Ave. and walked down 5th to do a little browsing.  I did find this store called Uniglo, and bought a cute dress for $19.90.  We had dinner near Rockefeller Plaza at a place called Bill Bar and Burger.  After dinner we walked around to browse/shop a little more and then tried to go to Serendipity.  Since I didn't get to try it last time I was in NYC, I really wanted to get a frozen hot chocolate.  However, there was a 2 hour wait, and it was already 9pm.  We ended up just buying desserts from the Magnolia Bakery, right inside Bloomingdales.

And that was our last day in NYC....
