Day 11&12 - Boston

Image
On Saturday we drove from Acadia to Boston.  We made it into Boston right around 3pm.  Right after we got here, we decided to hop on the subway and go up to Cambridge.  Washington's Headquarters is up there and we were trying to get to it before it closed.  Unfortunately we got up there are 15 mins after they had closed.  So we just spent some time walking around Cambridge.  We saw Harvard Yard and read all about the statue of John Harvard.  Don't ever touch the statue if you see it! We had dinner at Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage...as seen as Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.  They are famous for their burgers named after celebrities.  I had the Tom Brady, which was cheddar cheese, guacamole, onion, tomato, and lettuce.  Daniel had the Big Pappi, which was a double cheese burger with bacon and bbq sauce.   We came back to the hotel to call it an early night, because we are starting to wear down.  Plus I needed to do laundry and Dani...

DFT14 - Day 9 and 10 - Acadia National Park

I'm typing on my phone, so we will se how well this works out. As I mentioned in the last post we changed up our days in Acadia, so we would hopefully have a nice day while we were there. When we got to Acadia on Thursday, it was really cold and gloomy. We tried to do as much as possible with crappy weather but it was hard. When we would drive up mountains, it would get really foggy and you couldn't see much. Plus it started raining again. After dinner it had cleared up enough for us to drive the park loop and take some decent pics. Yesterday we started the day with a ranger lead boat cruise to Bakers Island. It is an island off the coast of Maine that has a lighthouse on it. While on the cruise we were able to see three bald eagles. I was a little disappointed we didn't see any seals. But the boat cruise was nice! After the cruise we went back up into the park to hike. We hiked all around Jordan Pond and up to the North and South Bubbles. In total it...

Lighthouses Beaches at Cape Cod Another day in the books... Lunch at The Clam Shack....Best Lobster Roll in America Aunt Marie's Ice Cream....YUM! This is how we use the good camera in the rain....I hold the umbrella, while Daniel takes pics.  First Rainy Day of the Trip YAY! Too bad all the food I am eating, is canceling out all the walking I'm doing.

DFT14 Day 7 & 8 - A little change up

Initially we were suppose to be in the Providence, RI/Cape Cod area yesterday and Acadia today and tomorrow.  Coming back down to Portland on Friday.  Then we thought we would drive on passed Cape Cod, so we would be closer to Acadia today....UNTIL we looked at the weather.  According to the weather it was suppose to start raining today and not stop until Friday morning.  So we changed things up a bit.  We stayed in Cape Cod yesterday, drove up to Portland today, and are going on to Acadia tomorrow.  Hopefully we will have at least one clear day, on Friday, when we are in Acadia.  Today was our first rainy day.  It actually didn't start raining until about 5:30, so we were able to have a pretty nice day.  Since it was already raining when we got to the KOA to check in, we decided to up grade to a cabin for the night.  After we had already decided to get a cabin, the KOA guy told us that it was suppose to rain about 3 inches tonight....go...

Day 5 and 6 - FDR Day and Mystic

Image
It is so hard to blog from the campground.   They have free wifi, but it is slow and most of the time the ipad and iphones are dead when we get here.   Plus we are currently only staying 1 night at each place, so we basically get here at 9pm and leave at 9am.   Sunday was FDR day.   Since FDR is Daniel’s favorite president, we spent the day in Hyde Park visiting everything related to FDR.   Hyde Park is located in the Hudson Valley and is absolutely beautiful! FDR’s family owned approximately 1600 acres of land in Hyde Park, and the National Park Service still owns 900 acres.   So there was quite a bit to do. We actually probably could have stayed in the Hyde Park area for 2 days, but we were only scheduled one day. We started the day with a tour of his home.   After touring his home we toured Val-Kill, which was the home of Eleanor, after FDR died. Val-Kill was originally the home of Val-Kill industries, where they made furniture, but after V...

DFT14 - Day 4 - Tourist Hell

Sorry....but that is exactly what yesterday was.  For all of you that live and work in NYC kuddos to you because I couldn't handle all the crazies on a daily basis.  I wonder if it being a Saturday made it worse? We started the day out in the Midtown area.  We went to see the Flatiron Building and the Birthplace of Teddy Roosevelt. At the birthplace they only give tours every couple hours and we did not have time to take a tour.  So we were just able to view the exhibits downstairs.  After that we jumped back on the subway to head toward Lower Manhattan.  We walked up to Brooklyn Bridge, but did not start across it.  We tried to visit Federal Hall, where Washington was sworn in, but it was closed.  Seriously, this is NYC...people are here all the time...why is this building closed on a Saturday?  We walked through the Financial District and saw the charging bull from a distance..there were only 10,000 people surrounding it.  Then w...
