DFT 24 - Day 1 and 2- On the Road Again

First things first - I’m typing from the iPad. I type fast and I don’t proofread. We are constantly moving and I barley have time to type. So if you don’t like to read things with errors - keeping moving this is not the blog for you πŸ˜‰

We’ve been trying to get to New Mexico since 2020. But we all know Covid happened. Then we were going to come in 2022 - but Charlotte happened 🀣. So here we are in 2024.

We left last Friday and seriously haven’t stopped until now. So now that we are settled for a few days I’m going to try to crank out a few posts for my half dozen loyal followers that enjoy our travels 😜

Of course we had to wait for football practice to be over on Friday before we left town but we were able to leave around lunchtime to start our drive to Memphis. I personally had never been to Memphis. I only remember driving by it on the way to Texas when I was a kid but I now understand why my college friends from Memphis never went home. You hit Nashville and you are like okay this is awesome we will be there in no time.  But that drive from Nashville to Memphis feels like an eternity.

We finally made it to Memphis about 7pm. Checked in to our hotel and met up with Blair and Nicholas for dinner at Wiseacre. And Blair being the sweet person she is bought us a dozen doughnuts from Gibson Doughnuts to have for breakfast the next morning.

Day 2’s goal was to make it to Oklahoma City by night fall - with a couple stops along the way.

This coffee was excellent and needed a picture to remember it.

Our first NPS Geek Stop was to Little Rock Central High School. We were surprised to learn that it is still a functioning high school. So because of that the things you could do there were limited. It was also really hot outside - so we didn’t stick around for very long.

After Little Rock we drove to Fort Smith. IT WAS SO HOT!!!!! We got there an hour before they closed. Did as many of their indoor activities as possible. And the ranger told EG to do as much as the junior ranger program as she had time to do. It was seriously too hot to do any outside activity.

We were suppose to be staying in our rooftop tent outside of Oklahoma City that night but the low was suppose to only be 86 - so we opted for a hotel instead.

Other than my coffee in Memphis our food choices on day 2 were not great. We went to a sandwich shop in Little Rock called Jimmy’s it had great reviews but was just Meh. Then we tried to get appetizer at a place in Fort Smith called Bricktown - service there was questionable. Lastly, when we got into Oklahoma City we decided to try Whataburger - not going to lie I don’t see what all the hype is about 🀷🏻‍♀️
