DFT19 - Ohio
The Dudley Field Trip 2019 has begun! We left Knoxville on Thursday (after workouts, of course). And started the drive to the Cleveland, OH area. The drive was terrible. Once we past Columbus it pretty much rained on us the whole time. And we didn’t arrive at the campground until 10pm ish. Luckily there was a break in the rain and we were able to quickly get our camp set up before it started another down pour. We brought the pack n play along on this trip. I’ll let you guys guess if EG actually slept in it or not. We may or may not be toting around a pack n play that will not be used anymore and we may or may not have found a Target yesterday to purchase a queen-size air mattress.
The exciting part of our trip started yesterday. We spent the majority of the day in Cuyhoga Valley National Park. We started by hiking Brandywine Falls. Then we visited the Visitors Center, which is in a village type setting, and has a train run through. But the actual Visitors Center is under construction so the train isn’t currently stopping in the village L Apparently you can take a train excursion through the entire park. Also the park is really big on biking. There are bike trails all over and they all connect to one another. I want to go back and for sure go on a train ride, but maybe bike some of the park. We also saw a Covered Bridge in the park and the Beaver Marsh (which use to be a landfill and in the 1980’s it was converted to a wildlife sanctuary). We found this fun farm stand on the side of the road to eat lunch at.
After our visit to Cuyhoga we drove up to Mentor, OH to see the James Garfield National Historic Site. Daniel was able to watch the movie in the visitors center…EG was having none of it. But we all 3 took the house tour. Of course I wore her on my back so she couldn’t touch anything. And I was sneaking her M&M’s to keep her happy. She only lost it once and I only bumped into one door. So I think it was a success.
We found a Taco place for dinner. Yelp said it have four stars, I question that. But we did find a Great Harvest Bread close to the taco restaurant and were able to get some Cinnamon Chip bread for breakfast.
We ended the night we a trip to Progressive Field to watch the Cleveland Indians play. This was ballpark number 8 for Daniel and I - only 22 more to go. They give away for the first 10000 fans was a freezer mug. We did not make it in time to get a mug, but the nice Detroit fan behind us gave EG his mug. She ate popcorn out of it. Pretty sure, the popcorn was her favorite part of the game. I kept waiting for them to play Wild Thing, but it never happened. We made until about the middle of the 5thbefore we left. She couldn’t take any more of it. Another guy behind us gave her an over/under of 4.5. He was spot on. Apparently the Indians ended up winning 7-6.
Now we are on our way to Niagara Falls for the day!
