DFT19 - Buffalo to Lake George

Today we thought it was going to be a low key day.  And even though it still sort of was lower key than usual, we had a lot to do, and it all took longer than anticipated.

One thing I have learned on these trips is that even though we have things planned, we have to be flexible.  And even more so now that EG is with us.  We originally had planned to go to the TR Inaugural Site on Saturday, but once we got to Niagara we realized there was no leaving and coming back.  Plus it our tour times for everything didn't allow for us to leave and come back.  So on to plan B...we would go to the TR site on Sunday before we left the area.  BUT it didn't open until 12pm.  We got up and found a place to eat breakfast.  It was called Eggperience.  I had crepes they were just okay.  I have a pic somewhere but really they weren't good enough to show a pic.  Found a Target to stop of for a few mins.  and then we went to the TR site.  It was a great site and we were the only ones on the tour which is great for EG.  They tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable.

We left there at 1:30 headed to Seneca Falls which is the site of the first Women's Rights Convention. It took 2 hours to get to Seneca Falls and unfortunately the Elizabeth Cady Stanton home closed at 3:30, so we just missed it.

The rest of the NHP site was great though.  The Museum and Exhibits we nicely put together.  The all female ranger staff was fantastic and really tried hard to get EG involved.  She even got her first Jr. Ranger badge (even though we were still a little too young to actually do the activities).  It was so cool to go inside Wesleyan Chapel which is where the convention was held and think of all the people who had sat inside the same building.

Seneca Falls itself was a great town.  I would love to go back and spend more time there.  We had also planned to tried to stop at the Harriet Tubman site, but it was closed on Sunday.  However probably good that we didn't get to stop since we were kinda crunched for time.  We did stop in Syracuse and have dinner at Dinosaur BBQ. It was pleasantly surprising in how good it was.  I would def recommend it.

We left Syracuse at 7:30 and still had about a 3 hour drive to Lake George.  We did get to drive through the Adirondacks but it got dark and we didn't get to see it all.  We pulled into the campground at 10:30, I went to get our stuff that should have been in the late checkin folder. And it wasn't there.  There was nothing there with our name on it.  As I started to panic I walked back to the car to get my phone and realized I had made the reservation for the wrong day.  The campground didn't think we were going to be there until Monday night, not Sunday night.  As I started to cry we started looking up motels.  The Courtyard Marriott was full.  There was a Super 8 close, so we stopped there...GUESS WHAT?? FULL.  As I started to cry on the front desk girl.  She offered to call the other Super 8 down the road and ask if they had a room.  They did and the girl ask me if I was okay paying $89 a night.  I was like I seriously don't care..I just need somewhere to sleep.  So we ended up at the Super 8.  On the bright side it was nice to take a good shower this morning!

Now on to Vermont today!
