DFT19 - Acadia

Image
On the way to Acadia we drove through a tiny town that had the cutest general store.  Of course we stopped to have some ice cream.  It was called Cloumbia Falls General Store. I am officially in love with General Stores and think that Newport needs one. We were in Acadia almost exactly five years ago.  And I can promise you there weren't this many people here then.  It is crazy packed.  But you can tell there is a lot more stuff here than there was last time. The first night we got there we went to a Laundry Mat to do a couple loads of laundry and then found dinner.  We ate a place called the Side Street Cafe.  I highly recommend it.  It was very good and not touristy at all.  It was actually so good we ate there twice. When we woke up on Monday it was raining but we didn't let rain on our fun.  We started the morning with pastries and coffee.  Then stopped for a visit at the Acadia NP visitor's center.  We drove mom arou...

DFT19 - Eastern Maine

Image
After leaving Baxter State Park we drove to Eastern Maine, specifically we wanted to go to St. Croix National Historic Site and West Quoddy Head Lighthouse - the eastern most point in the United States.  But we found some other neat things along the way. First driving to St. Croix you pass through Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.  We didn't have time to stop but just passing by I was able to spot a Bald Eagle.  I'm sure it would be full of all kinds of amazing wildlife. To be a very small National Historic Site St. Croix is really nice and very well maintained.  The Rangers there are very nice and are willing to talk to you and answer any questions you have.  Unfortunately you no longer able to actually go to the island, but they have a small walking path with lots of interpretive signs and statues.  Also because it was low tide we were able to go down and walk on the beach some. When choosing places to stay it was hard to find good accommod...

DFT19 - Baxter State Park

Image
Five years ago in Acadia, Daniel asked where he could see a Moose.  There answer was in Baxter State Park.  Apparently most of the Moose in Maine are up in Baxter, so this trip we made it a point to go to Baxter State Park.  After an amazing breakfast in Portland at place called The Sinful Kitchen (I highly recommend it, I had pineapple coconut stuffed French toast that was to die for) we started our journey to Baxter.  The park itself is only about 30 mins from a town, but once you get into the park you have to travel about 40 mins to your cabin or campsite, so once we were in – we weren’t coming back out until it was time to leave.  Also the AT ends in Baxter State Park at Mt. Katahdin.  We finally made it to our cabin about 3:30 or so.  It was really nice.  They are all primitive, no running water or electricity.  We were staying on what I consider a lake, but they call it a pond. You could ...

DFT19 - New Hampshire

Image
After driving across Vermont and tasting the best Maple Syrup of all time, we ended up in New Hampshire.  We were suppose to spend our last night camping for several days but it was raining as we arrived at the campground, so we upgraded to a cabin.  The campground was super old,  but had just been purchased and they were in the process of upgrading it.  It was really nice and at the nicest and hottest showers I have ever had at a campground.  I would gladly stay there again.  We had dinner at Black Mountain Burgers and it was really good too! The next morning we had breakfast at the White Mountain Bagel Company before starting our day exploring the White Mountain National Forest. We first stopped at the Flume Gorge.  It is a part of the North Franconia State Park.  It actually cost $16 each to hike 2 miles around the Gorge Loop.  At first I thought it was a little crazy, but it ended up being totally worth it.  The facilities includin...

DFT19 - Vermont

Image
For the last two days we have been exploring Vermont.  The drive from Lake George to Burlington was really nice and we saw lots of fun things that we would love to come back explore.  HEY Viv...we drove through this town.  Do you think they use Ticonderoga Pencils in Ticondergoa #teacherjokes. Burlington was a neat town.  I'll be honest when I say I think it would be more fun without a toddler.  Its just not very toddler friendly...in the way that there isn't whole lot of stuff that would be of interest or exciting to a toddler.  But it was nice. We explored Church Street Marketplace.  Our campground was really neat and nice.  It is run by the Burlington Parks and Rec. department and is right on Lake Champlain.  So we spent about our hour playing on the beach and in the water.  EG loved swimming.  We did visit Lake Champlain Chocolates and I got the best candy bar I have ever had in my entire life.  No pictures ...
