DFT19 - Acadia

On the way to Acadia we drove through a tiny town that had the cutest general store.  Of course we stopped to have some ice cream.  It was called Cloumbia Falls General Store. I am officially in love with General Stores and think that Newport needs one.

We were in Acadia almost exactly five years ago.  And I can promise you there weren't this many people here then.  It is crazy packed.  But you can tell there is a lot more stuff here than there was last time.

The first night we got there we went to a Laundry Mat to do a couple loads of laundry and then found dinner.  We ate a place called the Side Street Cafe.  I highly recommend it.  It was very good and not touristy at all.  It was actually so good we ate there twice.

When we woke up on Monday it was raining but we didn't let rain on our fun.  We started the morning with pastries and coffee.  Then stopped for a visit at the Acadia NP visitor's center.  We drove mom around the loop and while walking around Thunder Hole we ran into some Newport Folk.  This is the second time we have ran into people we know in National Parks and it is always so much fun.  We should have taken a picture, but we were just so excited to see each other we didn't think about it.

After driving the loop we went over to the Southwest Harbor Side of the Park.  We stopped at Beal's Lobster House for lunch.  It was expensive but sooooo good!  And then went to visit the Bass Head Lighthouse which is part of the park.  In my opinion the Bass Head Lighthouse isn't even worth your time.  Its tiny..as is the parking lot.  You have to wait for a spot in the parking lot.  And then you can't go in it or anything so you basically just look at it.  We also hiked the Wonderland Trail which is on that side of the park.  It was a good flat trail that took you out to the beach.  But the mosquitoes were pretty bad on it to.  Fortunately we had bought more bug spray.

Tuesday we got up and had breakfast downtown at Jordan's Restaurant.  There are famous for the blueberry pancakes and blueberry muffins.  It was a quaint place that was run by locals and almost everyone working in the restaurant was related to each other.  Of course we all had blueberry pancakes.  We then drove over to Jordan Pond House.  We hiked around the pond which is 3.2 miles and mostly all flat.  But it is a great hike we beautiful scenery.  And then we had to have Tea and Popovers on the Lawn.  You can't visit Jordan Pond House without having tea and popovers and it is totally worth it to wait to sit outside.

Tuesday night we went back to Side Street for dinner and then drove up to Cadillac Mt.  We walked around the loop up there and took in the beautiful views.  And found a place to watch sunset.  Unfortunately the sunset was not as great as it usually is, but it was still fun being together.
