DFT18 - Denver and Boulder

Image
On Sunday we started with breakfast at the Denver Biscuit Co.  It was good...but it wasn't Maple Tree Biscuit Co. good.   We decided to spend the first half of the day at the Denver Children's Museum.  It was really fun.  EG had a great time, but it would have been even better if she was just a little bigger and maybe even walking.  There are lots of fun pics of her from the museum but they are on Daniel's phone :( Sunday evening we check an item off the bucket list....The Avett Brothers at Red Rocks.  It was great! I told EG that even though she doesn't remember it...no other concert she ever goes to will compare.  On Monday we started with breakfast at Snooze.  Pardon the terrible photo I had already started digging in before I remembered to take to pic.  Oops!! After breakfast we drove to Boulder for the day.  We walked up and down Pearl Street Mall and found some really fun stores.   ...

DFT18 - Mt. Evans and Idaho Springs

Image
Saturday we left Grand Lake and started our drive to Denver.  Mt. Evans is one of the only 14ers that you can drive to, so we decided to drive up there. I did not like the drive up, because the road was pretty narrow.  And apparently the car from Florida, that was in front of us, didn't either.  Since the drove in the middle of the road the whole time.  When we finally got to the top...Daniel and I both about got into a fight with some twenty year olds.  First off they were two cars behind us the whole way up.  And as I said the car from Florida was being really slow the whole way up.  Second, when we got to the top it was crazy packed, but there was a one way loop.  They went the wrong way in the loop and took the only parking spot up there.  We got stopped in traffic right beside there car and a guy opened up the door and hit our car.  I immediately tried to jump out of the car put had the door locked and my seatbelt on...so...

DFT18 - Rocky Mountain National Park

Image
We have pretty much decided that Rocky Mountain National Park hates us.  Let me describe Rocky Mountain for you.  It is very similar to the Great Smoky Mountains.  It is very large. On the East Side of the Park is a town called Estes Park.  The west side is a town called Grand Lake.  It is 48 miles from one town to the other, but because you have to drive across the mountains is takes about 1.5 hours.  A nice couple we met today described the two towns like this: Estes Park is like Gatlinburg - super busy and tons of people.  Grand Lake is like Townsend - slower pace and more relaxed.  At the top is Alpine Visitors Center it would be like Clingmans Dome in the Smokies.  So here is a quick recap of our last trip to RMNP five years ago.  First, we went to Estes Park, crazy town.  Second, we were staying in a KOA and got the worst campsite in the world.  It was right beside the highway.  I swear our tent sh...

DFT18 - Glenwood Springs, CO

Image
We tried to keep driving to 3 hours or less a day, so EG wouldn't have to ride for long periods of time.   No more driving 36 straight hours :)  So instead of driving straight from Black Canyon to Rocky Mt. we decided to stop in Glenwood Springs, CO.   Daniel has driven by Glenwood Springs several times on his way out to Utah.  And it looks like a really neat town.  Now if you want my honest opinion I think the reason Daniel really wanted to stay in Glenwood Springs, is because of Hotel Colorado.  Which Teddy Roosevelt stayed at twice when he came to Colorado bear hunting.  And well Teddy is Daniel's favorite president and all.  Most of the hotels are on the opposite side of the interstate from downtown, but they have a really neat pedestrian bridge to take you right into downtown.  We had lunch at the Blue Bird Cafe, and watched a local artist hang out some of her beautiful work to display in the cafe.  And just w...
