DFT18 - Mt. Evans and Idaho Springs
Saturday we left Grand Lake and started our drive to Denver. Mt. Evans is one of the only 14ers that you can drive to, so we decided to drive up there.
I did not like the drive up, because the road was pretty narrow. And apparently the car from Florida, that was in front of us, didn't either. Since the drove in the middle of the road the whole time. When we finally got to the top...Daniel and I both about got into a fight with some twenty year olds. First off they were two cars behind us the whole way up. And as I said the car from Florida was being really slow the whole way up. Second, when we got to the top it was crazy packed, but there was a one way loop. They went the wrong way in the loop and took the only parking spot up there. We got stopped in traffic right beside there car and a guy opened up the door and hit our car. I immediately tried to jump out of the car put had the door locked and my seatbelt on...so it wasn't easy. I did get the window rolled down and his response was "Oh My Bad" and he walked off. His friend however was at the back of the car and said something snarky to me, thats when Daniel threw the car into park and he tried to jump out. Again door locked, seatbelt on...not so easy. So he started yelling at me to roll the window back down. Eventually the guy at the back and the car apologized, but I did yell at him and tell him to be a good person and do the right thing....felt like I was talking to one of my students.
It was very cold at the top. The average daytime temp in the summer is 42. And it can snow any time. Also storms are very common, and it looked like a storm was rolling in as we were going back down.
There are wild mountain goats that roam around at the top. We also saw a Marmot, but I didn't get its pic.
After Mt. Evans we stopped in Idaho Springs to walk around the town and have lunch at Beau Jo's Pizza. It is so good!! The mountain crust is really thick and they give you honey to dip you crust in!
We got to Denver around 5. EG was really tired and we didn't feel like she could handle dinner out. So we ordered out from a place called the Bacon Social House....Surprise everything has Bacon in it! Daniel had Chicken and Waffles. I ate the Pulled Pork Burrito. They have Bacon Flight on the menu. Had we been eating there, I'm sure we would have tried it!
