DFT16 - Utah Rocks
We started this journey Sunday morning at 3:30 am. After a small detour in St. Louis to visit the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, we made it to Kansas around 4pm. Which was great because we were able to spend the afternoon with Missy and Jenna. Hey Jenna have you finished that Lego set yet, because you haven't sent us a picture?
Our second day was just a long drive across Kansas and Colorado. We made it to about Denver before we ran into any storms. We had dinner at the amazing pizza place in Idaho Springs called Beau Jo's.
Finally on day three we made it to our actual starting point. I swear the weather is bipolar. When we woke up Wednesday morning it was 42 degrees in Colorado. By the end of the day in Arches National Park it was 93 degrees. Arches was quite the site to see. I was amazed it by it! We were able to see the Windows and Double Arch, as well as Balanced Rock. We hiked a trail called Park Avenue that was down through a canyon in the park. And lastly we hike up to Delicate Arch for Sunset. Delicate Arch was absolutely stunning, but there were way too many people up there. We camped in Arches last night, were we did not have a shower so until about 20 minutes ago I hadn't showered since Wednesday morning. Which I guess doesn't sound too bad but when you have hiked two days straight, you don't smell too good, or at least I'm assuming - my nose has been all stopped up and I can't smell much.
Today we drove from Arches to Capital Reef National Park. In Capital Reef we were able to hike a short 1mile trail to what they call Natural Bridge. We also saw Petroglyphs while in Capital Reef. However, the most entertaining part of Capital Reef was the Tour Bus that was stuck on the side of the road and there was an older man who had nothing to do with the park trying to direct traffic :)
We didn't spend too much time in Capital Reef because we were trying to get to Bryce Canyon. We did not get here as early as we wanted but we were still able to see everything we wanted to and hike 3 miles down into the canyon. At this point Bryce Canyon might be my favorite park. We are staying in a campground outside of the park that has showers! YAY! And Wifi! Double Yay! but the wifi doesn't work great...so it might take me all night to get picture uploaded. UPDATE: no picture because the wifi is terrible. I will do a huge picture dump as soon as I can!
Utah might Rock, but Cell Service and Wifi certainly does not rock anywhere in Utah. We will be in Zion tomorrow and will most likely not have any service, but on Friday we will be at a hotel in California and I hope to update again then!
