DFT18 - Food Posts
Every time we take a trip we always talk about the food we ate, but we can't ever remember the names of the restaurants because for some reason we don't ever write them down or post about them on the blog. So we decided to change that this year.
Typically in order to choose places to eat we use Yelp. If it doesn't have 4 or more stars we won't eat there. I try to research restaurants and their rating prior to our trip.
Colorado Springs:
Our first night in Colorado we at a pub called Odyssey. We both had the Chicken and Corn Waffles and it was amazing!!! I would def. go back again.
Daniel is always on the lookout for a good coffee shop. Some how I found a Coffee Shop called the Story Coffee Co. on instagram a few mos. ago. Since I knew we would be visiting Colorado Springs I saved it so I could remember. They make their own homemade pop tarts!!
Also I had a Coffee Arnold Palmer...which is basically Coffee mixed with Lemonade. It sounds gross but it was SOOOOO GOOD! I've now looked up recipes on Pinterest so I can make my own.
Sand Dunes/Alamosa:
Our first night in Sand Dunes we ate at a restaurant called Calvillo's Mexican Restaurant. I had the Tamales and Daniel had a Burrito. It was fabulous. We should have ate their again the next night :(
After dinner we found a Nestle Tollhouse Cafe....I thought it was an odd place for one but we had to get dessert somewhere.
The next time we decided to go for a burger and went to a restaurant called The Rubi Slipper. The burger and fries were good, but the appetizer of fried mac and cheese was the best. The cheesecake for dessert was okay - it didn't taste like normal cheesecake.
On Thursday morning before we left we stopped at a coffee shop. I didn't get pictures of the food but my breakfast burrito was amazing and Daniel and EG really like the biscuits and gravy.
On the way to Mesa Verde we stopped in Durango, CO. We had lunch at the Steamworks Brewing Co. I ate the Dirty Fires and they were great!!
Mesa Verde/Cortez:
Once we got to Mesa Verde we were limited to the food that the parked served. Which is just average. The park does have several different restaurants and for the most part it was all decent except for the Far View Lounge. It was trying to be a fancy restaurant when it really wasn't. Plus the food and service were awful.
We did leave the park one day and ate lunch at a restaurant called Beny's Diner. It was really good and they had a very large breakfast menu so we went back Sunday morning before leaving town for Breakfast. I forgot to take a picture either time but it was really good both times.
On the way from Mesa Verde to Black Canyon we stopped in Telluride, CO. Our first stop was to a bookstore/coffee shop. I forgot the name of the coffee shop but I had a really interesting drink called a Golden Milk Latte. It was okay....cool to try, but I don't think I would drink it again.
We also had sandwich's at a bakery called Baked in Telluride. They were really good but huge so we each took half with us to eat once we got to Black Canyon because there is no where to eat in the park.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison/Montrose:
We only ate outside the park once and we found a restaurant called Jimmer Back Country BBQ. Daniel had all you can eat ribs and he said the were average. I ate the Jimmer's Fatboy Taco, which is a 6 inch tortilla stuffed with shredded pork and cheesy potatoes. It was pretty good!. I would eat it again! Daniel and EG also ate Moose Poo (Oreo Truffles) for dessert.
As we left Montrose we stopped at The Daily Bread Bakery for breakfast. EG and I really liked their biscuits and gravy! The biscuits were more like sweet cornbread than a regular biscuit, but it was really good.
