Dudley Field Day 2021 - Days 1 and 2
We have officially begun #DFT21! We left Thursday after football practice, of course ;) and drove from home to St. Louis. We stopped in Cookeville for lunch and drove through town to bypass a major wreck on the interstate and had to stop at Ralph's for Doughnuts.
We knew there was a Cardinals game at 7:15 but didn't know if we could make it to St. Louis in time. But as we got closer we realized we would be there right as the game started. So we quickly found a place to park (which is really hard because we can't use garages with the Turtle Shell on the top of the car). Bought some tickets on my phone from the parking lot and headed in. It was really sticky and humid. We had stadium hot dogs and cokes for dinner. And the Cardinals played pretty terrible. But at the end of the game we had a great time and marked another stadium off our list!
On Friday we wanted to get up and go back into downtown St. Louis to take EG up in the Arch. But we woke up to storms and didn't think that would be fun in a storm. After stopping for coffee and a Cinnamon Roll we drove on to Kansas City, MO.
We give this Cinnamon Roll at C+ - I Liked that it was mini and only cost $2 so its great for a quick treat. But it def. needed more icing.
When we got to Kansas City we had a great time in the Crown Center/Union Station area of Kansas City. We parked at Union Station (which is beautiful!) and walked through what they call The Link to get everywhere else we wanted to go. We had lunch at Burnt End BBQ. My bowl was delicious it was burnt ends, baked beans, fried cornbread bites, and onion straws. Daniel's food was just okay :( But the one person who really loved their meal was EG. She was either really hungry or it was the best PB and J she had ever had. It also came with grapes her favorite. And a cookie which she didn't eat and gave to her Daddy (those that know my child know this was highly unusual). After lunch we went to the Legoland Discovery Center. It was kind of crazy town! Lots of people and lots of stimulation. There were rides, 4D movies, Virtual Reality, Ninjago Training Center, and plenty of places to practices you lego building skills. My favorite part was the MiniLand. Of course we had to buy legos at the end. But they did have the set for our Christmas Village that was sold out and we didn't get last year....so that's a win! EG picked out a set for herself and picked up a small souvenir for some lego loving Sawyer and Ian. When we finished there was a severe thunderstorm in Kansas City so the link made it possible for us to get back to the car without getting out in the weather!
We left Kansas City to drive to Sioux City, Iowa where we planned to stop for the night. But along the way we drove by Omaha, NE and decided to stop for dinner. Actually if Tennessee had won they would have been playing last night and I had Daniel talked in to stopping for that game but well you know :( Omaha was crazy town lots of people everywhere. Not sure if its all because of the College World Series or if it is normally like that. We ate dinner at a place called Upstream Brewing Co. I had the pot roast which was amazing. The bread they gave you with it is homemade in the restaurant and tastes just like brown bread from the Cheesecake Factory! They also make homemade Root Beer that was fantastic! After dinner we made a quick drive by Ameritrade Park. Then headed on out of town.
The 1.5 hour drive last night from Omaha to Sioux City was terrible. It was dark and there is nothing for miles and miles and miles. And it was raining super hard. But at last we finally made it and went straight to sleep! This was the worst driving we have encountered. Traffic to St. Louis was great and the drive was pretty easy! We also highly recommend Pop Its for a long drive. We have ALL had fun playing with the pop its that I bought as a car surprise for EG. And I found these printable I Spy Games online before we left. And she has loved them! https://www.papertraildesign.com/i-spy-game-printables/
Today we will drive up to South Dakota and set up our tent for next four nights.
Ice Cream Count: 1 - Ben and Jerry's at the Baseball Game
Target Runs: 1 - I forgot something
States Added to our Visited Lists: 3 for EG, 2 for Ashley, 2 for Daniel (I think but he is asleep right now)
*I am very weird about what constitutes a visit to a state. I won't count it unless you get out of the car and actually do something significant there. It doesn't count if you just drive through. So I am not adding Illinois to EG's list because we just drove through. Also we would have not added Nebraska had we not gone to dinner. Because the interstate never crosses into Nebraska on our drive, just follows the border.
EG's Favorite thing about Thursday: Ice Cream at the Ball Game
Favorite thing about Friday: Picking out Legos to buy
