DFT21 - Day 5 and 6

There are two caves in the Black Hills.  Jewel Cave and Wind Cave, but in order to get tours you have to basically be at the park by the time the visitors center opens at 8am.  So for the past two mornings we have had to get up extra early.  We made it to Jewel Cave right at 8ish.  People were flying through the parking lot to get their tickets - it was kinda crazy.  We purchased our tickets and then had a catastrophe.  It said closed toe shoes.  All EG had were crocs and some keen type shoes (that we left back at the tent).  Some people were saying Keens were fine, others were saying no it couldn't be any type of sandal.  So being the rule followers we are we drove into to town to buy her shoes.  I tried the Dollar General first for some cheap shoes.  They didn't have any and said the Dollar General 30 miles away carried kids shoes.  But there was an outfitters store in the town that we stopped at and sure enough they carried ...

DFT21 - Day 3 and 4

Day 3 we woke up in Sioux City, Iowa with plans of stopping in Sioux Falls, SD, then spending the day driving across South Dakota.  First off there weren't many places to stay in Sioux City.  I did end up finding an Avid, which is owned by the same group that owns the Holiday Inn. And for a one night stay it was really nice.  Next time I need a quick place to stay only for a night or two, I will def. check them out again.  The coffee was fresh ground as you wanted it.  The breakfast was a variety of grab and go items and they had a great selection.  The rooms were nice, new, and clean.  We were really happy with our stay there.  After leaving the hotel we drove 1.5 hours to Sioux Falls for breakfast.  We ate at Josiah's Coffee and it was fantastic! The only downside was the gravy was spicy so EG wouldn't eat it.  But we tried a homemade pop tart that was awesome.  And we also had the Cinnamon Roll!  Their Barista Drink of the w...

Dudley Field Day 2021 - Days 1 and 2

We have officially begun #DFT21! We left Thursday after football practice, of course ;) and drove from home to St. Louis. We stopped in Cookeville for lunch and drove through town to bypass a major wreck on the interstate and had to stop at Ralph's for Doughnuts.  We knew there was a Cardinals game at 7:15 but didn't know if we could make it to St. Louis in time.  But as we got closer we realized we would be there right as the game started.  So we quickly found a place to park (which is really hard because we can't use garages with the Turtle Shell on the top of the car). Bought some tickets on my phone from the parking lot and headed in.  It was really sticky and humid. We had stadium hot dogs and cokes for dinner.  And the Cardinals played pretty terrible. But at the end of the game we had a great time and marked another stadium off our list! On Friday we wanted to get up and go back into downtown St. Louis to take EG up in the Arch.  But we woke up to st...

Dudley Field Trip 2021

After a year of little to no travel we are about to embark on this years trip.  I decided to take some time to try to update some things on the blog.   1) I changed the background.  When I started the blog in 2012, it was hard to add a custom background because you actually had to go into the code and manually input it.  I still can't figure out how to get rid of it.  So this is the only background I could find that just covered it up.   2) We have changed the name....because after a lot of conversation I don't actually hate camping anymore.  But the "I Love Not Camping" will still remain in the url.  We picked "The Cinnamon Roll Chronicles" because lets be honest the highlight of our trip is the food we eat.  Coffee, Donuts, Cupcakes, Ice Cream, and most specifically Cinnamon Rolls.  I'll still keep our ice cream count ;) and we will still write about all the wonderful places we eat.  But our new goal is to find all the best ...
